Recap #TobaccoJRN200

With the ordinance for a tobacco-free campus at Michigan State University taking place in Aug. 15, 2016, some student's believe this is not the right decision.
“Students should have the right to use tobacco whenever they want on campus,” said Matt Stevenson, a junior at MSU.
This ordinance will not have much effect, according to Brian Wilson, a representative for Lorillard Tobacco.
“Banning tobacco on campuses will not do much I believe. These kids will still find a way to smoke it or chew it if they have to,” said Wilson.

Overall, tobacco is becoming a major problem on college campuses.

Each day, more and more colleges are beginning to implement tobacco-free campuses. Students at these colleges are not allowed to use tobacco products on the grounds of the campus.

Michigan State University is one of the newer schools that will put this ordinance into effect starting Aug. 15, 2016.

Steve Trosell, a sophomore at MSU, said he's in favor of the ordinance because he's tired of all the tobacco.

“It bugs me when people are constantly smoking. The smell makes me feel sick and I feel like I’m getting second-hand smoke,” said Trosell.

According to Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights, there are 1,130 colleges that are 100 percent tobacco-free.
